Services

I offer a range of services to choose from depending on the size and aim of your project.

Current East Devon Council planning policy (D4) states that "Planning permission will not be granted for development proposals unless they include a landscape scheme covering the design and layout of external space." So for architects, building companies or private clients involved in new build developments within East Devon (or any other area), I can produce soft landscaping plans to accompany technical drawings, plans showing existing or retained planting and boundary details, Land Management Reports and maintenance schedules to help form part of your planning application.

Concept garden designs, planting plans and lists are ideal for private clients who are making changes to their existing gardens and want something a little less formal.

It's up to you how involved you would like me to be, so read on to find out a little more about how I can help.

• A simple plants list will provide you with a selection of trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs suitable to your site and soil conditions, based on styles and requirements discussed during a consultation.

• Sketched concept plans will show you possible designs for the garden, incorporating the layout and position of features, feasible use of materials, and a general overview of planting areas and styles. These can be developed into more detailed design plans when a layout and features are agreed.

• A detailed planting plan will show you in plan view and/or elevation how the border(s) will look at maturity and include a numbered plant list. If required, it can also show planting detail throughout the seasons.

• As well as border planting, a soft landscaping scheme may also include boundary planting and trees, areas of orchard, grassland or woodland, and can detail specific planting numbers where required. It can be used to accompany technical site drawings as part of an application for planning approval for private dwellings or larger scale developments

• A Land Management Report may cover topics such as ground preparation and planting guidelines, selection and justification of species, planting for wildlife, or establishment and maintenance of individual planting areas - it depends on the site and the scope of the project.

The source and supply of good quality plants can be arranged for all varieties and sizes, including specimen trees and shrubs, offering you competetive prices to fit in with your budget.

• A planting service may be offered depending on the size of both site and plants. For projects where planting is undertaken by a third party, I can oversee the layout and positioning to ensure the design is followed correctly and that any changes can be accommodated easily.

• A maintenance schedule based on the planting plan will ensure that the scheme can be kept looking its best and that each plant performs to its potential year round.

With the exception of a simple planting plan for an existing border, most projects require some structural work such as the construction of retaining walls, steps, terraces or pathways. For all aspects of hard landscaping I can recommend local landscapers who I regularly work with, or would be happy to work with companies you may already have in mind.
